When Oba Nsugbe took silk aged only 39, he was described in leading legal directories as a “rising star” of the Bar of England and Wales.

He is Head of Pump Court Chambers based in the Temple and enjoys a broad international legal practice with a focus on Africa. Oba sits as a part time judge in the Crown Courts of England and Wales, is a Bencher of Gray’s Inn and a Legal Assessor for the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service where he advises Panels in cases involving the regulation and discipline of doctors.  

He is passionate about the Arts and as a member of the Tate African Arts Acquisition Committee is able to play a part in bringing to the fore African Artists to be acquired and shown by this Institution. He is a Trustee of the Africa Centre, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Visiting Professor of Law at City University. Upon being promoted to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, he became one of only two lawyers to attain the highest rank of the profession in both jurisdictions.
