The Black British Business Awards (the “BBBAs” or “we”) values maintaining the privacy of personal information collected on our website and through the events platforms we use for event registrations. The BBBAs is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected.
This notice sets out the information gathering and dissemination practices of the BBBAs in connection with our website and our events. In this notice we explain how we use the information we collect about you, how you can instruct us if you prefer to limit the use of that information and the procedures that we have in place to safeguard your privacy. Use of our website and events platforms constitutes acknowledgement and where applicable, consent to the BBBAs collection and use of your personal data as outlined in this notice.
In this Notice we may refer to you as a “user” of our services, website and other promotional and events platforms.
DATA PROTECTION PRINCIPLES
The BBBAs will comply with data protection law and principles, which means that users data will be:

- Collected only for valid purposes that we have clearly explained to you and not used in any way that is incompatible with those purposes.
- Relevant to the purposes we have told you about and limited only to those purposes.

COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
We may collect and/or track (a) the home server domain names, e-mail addresses, type of computer, and type of Web browser of users to the website, (b) the e-mail addresses of users that communicate with the BBBAs, the website via e-mail or the events platforms we use, (c) information knowingly provided by the user in online forms, registration and subscription forms, surveys, etc. (including your first and last name, job title, place of employment, address, e-mail, how you heard about our event as applicable, your role in an employee network, and other personal profile data), and (d) aggregate and user-specific information on which pages users access.
In accordance with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) BBBAs may also send you relevant advertisements or marketing information if you have ever attended one of the BBBA events whether or not in partnership with a third party company, purchased or enquired about the BBBAs’ products or services or at the time of your purchase or enquiry, you agreed to receive advertising or marketing information from the BBBAs and you have not opted out from receiving that information.
If you decide to use our website and perform a search within it, we may record information identifying you or linking you to the search performed. We may also record limited information associated with every search request made by you and use that information to, among other things, solve technical problems with the service and to calculate overall usage statistics.

USE OF PERSONAL DATA COLLECTED
We may use the personal data we collect for internal purposes, namely, for solving technical problems, calculating overall usage statistics, for internal marketing and promotional purposes, to gain audience statistics post events, to understand our audience better, product development, and content improvement. We will not disclose to third parties any individually identifying information, such as names, postal and e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, and other personal information which you have voluntarily provided to the BBBAs, except to the extent necessary such as through the use of a third party events platform that the you may use to register for one of our events, to comply with applicable laws or legal processes (e.g. subpoenas, regulatory requests or investigations), or to protect the rights or property of the BBBAs.
The BBBAs will cooperate with law enforcement authorities around the world.
We may implement security features to prevent the unauthorized release of or access to personal information on our website and to the extent possible through the choice of third-party platforms we use to promote and host events. Please note, however, that we cannot guarantee the confidentiality of any communication or material transmitted to/from the BBBAs via its site, e-mail or the third-party platforms used by the BBBAs to promote, take registrations, and host events. Accordingly, the BBBAs is not responsible for the security of information transmitted via the Internet. The BBBAs has global interest and reach through the services it provides and the events it hosts, which means personal data may be stored and processed (for example stored in a data centre) in any country where we or our service providers have facilities or host events. By providing personal data for any of the purposes as referred to in this Notice, you acknowledge that your personal data may be transferred to or stored in the United States or in other countries around the world. Such countries may have data protection rules that are different and less protective than those of your country.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), and your personal data is transferred outside of the EEA, we will:
Process it in a territory which the European Commission or the UK Government has determined provides an adequate level of protection for personal information; or

The BBBAs will retain and securely destroy user’s personal information in accordance with its Records Retention Policy.
If you reside in the UK or the European Economic Area, you may have the right to exercise certain privacy rights available to you under applicable laws. The BBBAs will process your request in accordance with applicable data protection laws. We may need to retain certain information for record-keeping purposes or to complete transactions that you began prior to requesting any deletion. A summary of your rights is included below:
- Right not to provide consent or to withdraw consent. The BBBAs may seek to rely on the users consent in order to process certain personal data. Where we do so, the user has the right not to provide their consent or to withdraw their consent at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of the processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
- Right of access and/or portability. The user may have the right to access the personal data that we hold about you and, in some limited circumstances, have that data provided to you so that you can provide or “port” that data to another provider.
- Right of erasure. In certain circumstances, the user may have the right to the erasure of personal data that the BBBAs holds about the user (for example if it is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was originally collected).
- Right to object to processing. The user may have the right to request that the BBBAs stop processing your personal data and/or to stop sending you marketing communications.
- Right to rectification. The user may have the right to require us to correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
- Right to restrict processing. The user may have the right to request that we restrict processing of their personal data in certain circumstances (for example, where the user believes that the personal data, we hold is not accurate or lawfully held).
- Right to lodge a complaint to your local Data Protection Authority. If the user is an EEA resident, they have the right to complain to a data protection authority about our collection and use of your personal data.

ACCESS TO AND ABILITY TO CORRECT PERSONAL DATA
The BBBAs will, following request via postal mail, e-mail, or telephone, will provide to users a summary of any personally identifiable information retained by the BBBAs regarding the user. As a user you may modify, correct, or update personally identifiable information that the BBBAs has collected from the site, or third-party event platforms used to promote, register, or host events, or may request that your personal record is removed from the BBBAs’ database by contacting the BBBAs via e-mail.
PERSONAL INFORMATION RELATING TO MINORS
The BBBAs does not solicit information from children (under the age of 16) and we do not market the site or its services to children (knowingly or otherwise). No one under the age of 16 should submit any personal information to the BBBAs including the site.
RIGHT TO CONTACT USERS
Where the BBBAs contacts the user through email, it shall ensure that its emails clearly display the location of the sender and include clear options for the user to opt-out from receiving emails from the BBBAs.
